MA Textiles Research Focus Group 2011-2012

During the last six months we have been organising weekly Research Focus Groups around the TED's TEN sustainable design strategies with the MA Textiles at Chelsea College of Art & Design. Each TED's TEN strategy has been researched by one group of principal investigators from the MA Textiles course, while an invited speaker presented cutting-edge work and research. This Research Focus Group has been put together by Kay Politowicz and following her vision to introduce sustainability into the curriculum through guest speakers and workshops.

The outcome was a set of critical evaluations and a workshop, where the topics discussed enhanced a reflection around the role as designers which the MA Textiles students will take a role on once they graduate, and the possibility to explore this in their practice during their studies. Most of the sessions had a lively discussion at the end, and this Blog encourages to continue the conversation on how the TED's Ten are integrated in the design work and the consumption of textiles, fashion and design products.
We look forward to see how this lecture series and the workshop had an impact on the design students' textile practice, and to feature this in the MISTRA Future Fashion www.textiletoolbox.com (watch out for this space) and on our graduates' website section.
